Film 2022
by Joanna Orland
I’m still living life 2020 style when it comes to cinema outings. But with all of the streaming content, I can just about keep up with some of the wonders the film industry has to offer. Albeit sometimes a bit behind schedule, so consider the release dates of some of these for streaming in Canada.
From my most enjoyed to my least:
—
The Banshees of Inisherin – A Martin McDonagh film starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson was pretty much a guarantee for my #1 spot. It lived up to expectation and even the hype. Phew!
RRR – My only regret is that I did not see this in a cinema. It would have blown my mind. This was so epic. A new all-timer for me!
Everything Everywhere All At Once – I loved it, but could’ve just as easily watched a feature length film about Raccacoonie!
Nightmare Alley
Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris – This was tailor-made for me (pun intended?)
Top Gun Maverick – That’s a movie!
The Wonder
Catherine Called Birdy
Aftersun
Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio
Decision to Leave
Old
Good Luck To You, Leo Grande
The Batman
I’m Your Man
The Fabelmans
The Sea Beast
Red Rocket
Emily the Criminal
The Nest – I think this is from 2020 but finally got it on Crave here in Canada.
Belfast
Turning Red
West Side Story
Spider-man: No Way Home
Triangle of Sadness – I sort of get the hype, but also if I can’t watch over 20 minutes of a movie due to motion sickness, then maybe it’s not for me.
Last Night in Soho
Marry Me
The Good Nurse
Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain
Hustle
The French Dispatch
Glass Onion
Don’t Worry Darling
Dune
Eternals
Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage
Werewolf by Night
See How They Run
Kimi
The Humans
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
I Came By
Wendell & Wild
After Yang
The Matrix Resurrections – One of the few blockbusters I was looking forward to… Silly me.
Hocus Pocus 2
Ghostbusters: Afterlife
Operation Mincemeat
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
Enola Holmes 2
Thor: Love and Thunder
Cha Cha Real Smooth
Men
The Bob’s Burgers Movie – I love the TV show but outside of the well-animated dance numbers, I just wasn’t into it.
Strange World
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore
Windfall
Matilda the Musical – I didn’t even finish this disaster.
White Noise
Elvis – I lasted 15 minutes and remembered that I don’t really like Baz Luhrmann films outside of Moulin Rouge.
Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers
