On November 9th, fans of classic film The Goonies got a very special treat – to celebrate the movie’s 30th anniversary, Warner Bros. has released an Anniversary Edition Blu-ray boxset containing special features and never-before-seen deleted scenes. And for serious fans of the 80’s classic, there is also a 30th Anniversary Collector’s Edition which has even more Goonies goodies
In addition to featuring the movie itself, the Anniversary Edition Blu-ray features commentary by Richard Donner and cast members, The Making Of The Goonies featurette, deleted scenes, the theatrical trailer, a soundtrack remastered in Dolby TrueHD 5.1, and most excitingly the Cyndi Lauper music video of The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough. While the Anniversary Edition is already impressing with its features, the Collector’s Edition takes it one step further to include special merchandise such as art cards, a 1985 Making of mini magazine and Empire’s Cast – Where Are They Now mini magazine.
If there are still people out there who haven’t seen the timeless classic, the release of the Anniversary Edition is the perfect excuse to get involved. Perhaps nostalgia is working in the film’s favour, but nonetheless, The Goonies remains the charming and lovable adventure it was when it was first released in 1985. The story of two brothers (Sean Astin and Josh Brolin) along with their motley crew of friends (Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, Jonathan Ke Quan, Martha Plimpton, Kerri Green) as they go on a treasure-hunting adventure still thrills. Classic characters and moments from the film, including the friendship of Chunk and Sloth, bring a smile to my face every time I watch it.
Goonies never say die, and this film never will.
