Last night I arrived at Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen for the Stags single launch. I caught these guys a couple of months ago at a secret gig in Shoreditch, so was eager to see what new tricks they had up their musical sleeves. While the switch from a more intimate venue to a full on gig environment meant that the velvety tones of Christopher Finney’s raw vocal quality became slightly lost amongst the louder sound levels, the plus of this was that the performance felt a lot more ‘rock star.’

It’s easy to compare the grunge style roots of Stags to Nirvana, particularly with the lead singer’s blonde Kurt style locks.  They are bringing something unique to the current music scene in the same vein as Kings of Leon when they broke onto the music scene in 1999. ‘Just Like You’ is a safe bet for a single release, the kind of track that stays in your head for all the right reasons.

The thing with Stags is that they are quite easy to listen to and because of this, I hope that the material they continue to produce doesn’t become boring or predictable. I’d be interested to hear some new material from them to see if they can mix it up a bit – I’m sure they can! I’m convinced that these guys are going to make it big.
