SAG Awards Winners
The SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards winners were announced last night at an elaborate ceremony in Los Angeles. The stars were out, Emma Thompson was on great form and photobombing to the max. Very few surprises, but some telling winners that could help predict the outcome for the impending Oscar race.
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A CAST IN A MOTION PICTURE
American Hustle took this award from 12 Years a Slave which really confirms this is a 2 film race. Although, how much credibility can you give to an awards show that nominates The Butler for best anything? Still, as this is about acting and cast, the Best Film Oscar is still likely to go to 12 Years.
12 Years a Slave
American Hustle
August: Osage County
Dallas Buyers Club
Lee Daniels’ The Butler
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A MALE ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Matthew McConaughey got the Golden Globe AND the SAG – perhaps the Oscar is his and not Chiwetel’s or Bruce’s. I’m very sad for Bruce Dern, but Matthew’s performance is also very outstanding.
CHIWETEL EJIOFOR, 12 Years a Slave
TOM HANKS, Captain Phillips
MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY, Dallas Buyers Club
FOREST WHITAKER, Lee Daniels’ The Butler
BRUCE DERN, Nebraska
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A FEMALE ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
No surprise, but still I was rooting for the delightful Emma Thompson who was robbed of an Oscar nomination for her excellent performance as P.L. Travers in Saving Mr. Banks.
MERYL STREEP, August: Osage County
CATE BLANCHETT, Blue Jasmine
SANDRA BULLOCK, Gravity
JUDI DENCH, Philomena
EMMA THOMPSON, Saving Mr. Banks
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A MALE ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
The right man won the award. Very happy to see that after about 5 years of not having made a film, Jared Leto has made a triumphant return to the big screen and is cleaning up at awards season. As much as everyone thought Michael Fassbender had the supporting actor award wins in the bag, Leto is proving everyone wrong with his very right performance of Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club.
MICHAEL FASSBENDER, 12 Years a Slave
BARKHAD ABDI, Captain Phillips
JARED LETO, Dallas Buyers Club
JAMES GANDOLFINI, Enough Said
DANIEL BRÜHL, Rush
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A FEMALE ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
With Lupita beating J. Law in this category, it reaffirms that this is a 2 woman race for Best Support Actress.
LUPITA NYONG’O, 12 Years a Slave
JENNIFER LAWRENCE, American Hustle
JULIA ROBERTS, August: Osage County
JUNE SQUIBB, Nebraska
OPRAH WINFREY, Lee Daniels’ The Butler
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY AN ENSEMBLE IN A DRAMA SERIES
The obvious choice.
Boardwalk Empire
Breaking Bad
Downton Abbey
Game of Thrones
Homeland
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY AN ENSEMBLE IN A COMEDY SERIES
Not the right choice. Any of the other nominees would’ve been better. 30 Rock would have been nice to see win one last time before it fades away into television history. RIP 30 Rock – I miss Liz Lemon.
30 Rock
Arrested Development
Modern Family
The Big Bang Theory

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A MALE ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Again, any category that Breaking Bad is nominated for, it must win. It is hands down the best television show.
STEVE BUSCEMI, Boardwalk Empire
BRYAN CRANSTON, Breaking Bad
PETER DINKLAGE, Game of Thrones
KEVIN SPACEY, House of Cards
JEFF DANIELS, The Newsroom
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A FEMALE ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Well, any category except Best Actress apparently. Anna Gun was robbed. Maggie Smith barely did anything in Downton Abbey – damn national treasures…
JESSICA LANGE, American Horror Story: Coven
ANNA GUNN, Breaking Bad
MAGGIE SMITH, Downton Abbey
CLAIRE DANES, Homeland
KERRY WASHINGTON, Scandal
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A MALE ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
People need to stop loving Modern Family – it is no longer funny or modern. I admit I used to love it as it used to be deserving of its accolades. It has strayed so far off the mark that I no longer watch it. Anyone else in this category would have been more deserving. That’s hard for me to admit as I used to adore Ty Burrell as Phil Dunphy.
ALEC BALDWIN, 30 Rock
JASON BATEMAN, Arrested Development
DON CHEADLE, House of Lies
TY BURRELL, Modern Family
JIM PARSONS, The Big Bang Theory
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A FEMALE ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
Yup, I totally get this one, but it still hurts that Liz Lemon didn’t win.
TINA FEY, 30 Rock
JULIE BOWEN, Modern Family
EDIE FALCO, Nurse Jackie
MAYIM BIALIK, The Big Bang Theory
JULIA LOUIS-DREYFUS. Veep
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A MALE ACTOR IN A TELEVISION MOVIE OR MINISERIES
All very good contenders, but Michael Douglas was outstanding as Liberace.
MATT DAMON, Behind the Candelabra
MICHAEL DOUGLAS, Behind the Candelabra
ROB LOWE, Killing Kennedy
AL PACINO, Phil Spector
JEREMY IRONS, The Hollow Crown
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A FEMALE ACTOR IN A TELEVISION MOVIE OR MINISERIES
Elisabeth Moss won the Globe, but Helen Mirren takes the SAG.
ANGELA BASSETT, Betty & Coretta
HELENA BONHAM CARTER, Burton and Taylor
ELISABETH MOSS, Top of the Lake
HOLLY HUNTER, Top of the Lake
HELEN MIRREN, Phil Spector
I visited a great deal of site but I believe this one contains something extra in it in it
