Cirque du Cabaret
by Jon Burns
If you like cabaret and burlesque, you’ll love Cirque du Cabaret’s return to the London Wonderground on the Southbank. Cirque du Cabaret are an ever moving company of performers who have been going for the best part of a decade, and who promise no two shows are ever the same.
Cabaret has seen a resurgence in recent years, and Cirque du Cabaret is a great example of how sexy, glamorous and cheeky the art form can be. We were greeted by the lovely Elle and the Pocket Belles; Elle being an beautiful Amazonian like singer towering over her four smaller, but as equally sexy friends, singing lovely swing covers of classics and dressed in gorgeous vintage dresses – we particularly enjoyed Bohemian Like You originally by The Dandy Warhols.
Other highlights included an awesome fire-breathing act to an Aphex Twin soundtrack, a wonderful hand balancing act, and a hula-hooping Elvis, all held together by the rather fabulous Dusty Limits on compère duty.
Cirque du Cabaret’s heady late night mix of music, burlesque and circus is perfect for the Spiegel tent on the Southbank. Catch them if you can.
