The Evil Dead

by Joanna Orland

The Evil Dead is the first in the legendary trilogy directed by Sam Raimi and starring B-Movie icon Bruce Campbell. Watching it (yet) again 29 years after it was made (jeez… that long??) it is completely dated, low budget, includes transparent special fx and is still as purely awesome as it ever was!

Digitally re-mastered HD picture/sound is ironic in this case, but the awesomeness knows no bounds. Seriously, it’s not about quality, but rather about campness. Why should you buy the Blu-Ray copy over the original VHS and more recent DVD? Well… special Blu-Ray disc features make your purchase worthwhile… Over 2.5 hours of special features in this case. Definitely a collector’s item for those Evil Dead fans out there… and there are lots of you!

For those unfamiliar with the Evil Dead films, there’s no time like the present to get acquainted. The premise is five young folk travel up to a cabin in the woods, and somehow evil spirits are unleashed possessing them one by one. And there’s also quite a horrific yet ridiculous rape scene involving some trees. That pretty much sums it up.

Sam Raimi’s cult classic horror film The Evil Dead is out on Blu-ray on October 11, 2010.
