Maxi Geil! & Playcolt

The New York artrock performers flew into London for a few gigs around town. Their champagne lunch slash art exhibit performance at Bloomberg SPACE was certainly an entertaining feast for the eyes and stomach. Highlights included Marko chasing around the hot dog lady and me not noticing waiters refilling my bottomless glass of champagne.

The upstairs of the gallery showcased a few of Maxi’s works, including a companion x-rated film based around his music. I’m not quite sure what this was about but it DID feature masturbation.

Having toured with the Scissor Sisters and Maximo Park, I was a bit confused as to what the band would actually sound like. Musically, their performance led me to believe that I was watching INXS performing the soundtrack to Velvet Goldmine.

Like the Scissor Sisters, Maxi Geil! & Playcolt feature two vocalists, one male, one female. Unlike the Scissor Sisters, the female is good and the male is BAD. I’m not normally a fan of chick singers, but I must say that the female singer was quite good… at least relatively speaking.

Anyway, this is where I begin to rant.
