Club Fandango: Club 229

by Joanna Orland

Club Fandango were celebrating 6 years of existence with 6 days of music. The club night has been running for 6 years at the Dublin Castle in Camden and has broken many stellar bands from the likes of Coldplay, Kasabian, Razorlight and more. So anyway… the Fistful of Fandango show at Club 229 last Friday featured GoodBooks and British Sea Power as the main acts. The venue was nifty. It felt like being at a high school dance – oh to be young again…

The second smaller room was quite interesting as it showcased a couple of smaller bands who played through the night. The best of the bunch being Get Shakes who were very Hot Chip, DFA 1979, MSTRKRFT, Chromeo esque. Then I actually got a look at the 2 boys on stage and my goodness they didn’t look the part. They might want to consider pulling a Milli Vanilli, cuz the music rocks.

GoodBooks were fantastic. Really solid musicians with great songs. I definitely would like to hear more from them!

We were a bit lame and didn’t stay for British Sea Power or the after party where BSP were Djing… Don’t blame us, we had to wake up early for Bestival!!!

As I was saying… Club Fandango know how to put on a party to showcase the best breaking bands on the scene. Looking forward to many more years to come.
