‘This is a movie about weird families – this is a weird family!’
As Tim Burton steals himself away from signing autographs and pausing for selfies with eager fans, he takes a second to tell us how working on a feature with Danny Devito and Micheal Keaton again is like a family reunion.. of weirdos. And as a lover of the ‘weird’ myself I kinda want to be part of it… or at least find myself at a point where it’s possible to look half as good as Eva Green strutting onto the carpet in a stunning sequin green dress that manages to wow circus glamour but still give her every inch of understated edge.
Dumbo, a Disney cult classic, reinvented by arguably one of the kings of cult, is a film that celebrates the outsider – but there are no outsiders here. It’s clear from the enthusiasm and sheer joy from the cast and crew when describing their time on the movie during it’s European Premiere at The Curzon Mayfair that this film isn’t just ‘family’ in genre but family in nature – everyone is welcome under Tim Burton’s Big Top Circus.
