Festival de Cannes 2015 Preview

The 68th Festival de Cannes is less than one month away, and exciting details have emerged regarding what the festival-going audience can expect.

The biggest news is the Cannes 2015 jury lineup which sees seven key figures of world cinema joining the two Jury Presidents Joel and Ethan Coen.  The jury’s task will be to decide among the films In Competition and select the prize winners, culminating in the Palme d’or which is the highest of film festival accolades.  The winners will be announced during the Festival Closing Ceremony on Sunday May 24th, 2015.

The jury members are:
Joel & Ethan Coen
(Directors, Writers, Producers – United States)
Rossy de Palma (Actress – Spain)
Sophie Marceau (Actress, Director – France)
Sienna Miller (Actress – United Kingdom)
Rokia Traoré (Composer, Singer-songwriter – Mali)
Guillermo del Toro (Director, Writer, Producer – Mexico)
Xavier Dolan (Director, Writer, Producer, Actor – Canada)
Jake Gyllenhaal (Actor – United States)

The programme of films that the jury will be considering are amongst the most anticipated of the year.  Out of Competition, the opening film is La Téte Haute (Standing Tall) by director Emmanuelle Bercot, marking the first time since 1987 that a female director will open the festival.  Highlights of films in all strands at this year’s Cannes film festival include Carol (Todd Haynes), Macbeth (Justin Kurzel), Youth (Paolo Sorrentino), The Sea of Trees (Gus van Sant), Sicario (Denis Villeneuve), Irrational Man (Woody Allen), Inside Out (Pixar), Mad Max: Fury Road (George Miller) and The Little Prince (Mark Osborne), but to name a few.

 

The 68th Festival de Cannes takes place May 13-24th, 2015.  We’ll be on site from May 15th with live coverage.
