Last night The Forum in Kentish Town played host to The Fly Awards. This was the music magazine’s inaugural award ceremony designed to celebrate ‘the innovators, risk-takers and true originals of modern music’. The ceremony marked The Fly’s celebration of its 15th year as a nationally distributed magazine, and featured performances by The Horrors, Thurston Moore, Peace, Bombay Bicycle Club and Wild Beasts.
Hosted by Chris Cain, and Keith Murray from ‘We Are Scientists’, the night saw bands including Wolf Alice, The Horrors, Arctic Monkeys, Haim and many others picking up awards. Bombay Bicycle Club kicked the night off in style while Peace went on to steal the show with their electric performance including a cover of Led Zeppelin‘s Good Times Bad Times.
Do I Wanna Know? saw the Arctic Monkeys take home the prize for Song of 2013, while Wolf Alice were named Ones To Watch in 2014. Foals beat acts Daft Punk, Haim and Janelle Monae to take home Artist Of The Year. Meanwhile, The Horrors picked up the Outstanding Artistry Award while Haim won Best Live Act. Other winners included Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore as Living Legend, Parquet Courts’ Borrowed Time as Album of 2013, and Glastonbury as Festival of the Year.
If the nakedness of the host at the end of the night is a sign of things to come, The Fly Awards 2015 should be very fun indeed.
