“Who says the fun stops when we turn 70?” Last Vegas eludes any preconception about us simply growing old, and naturally developing this desire to happily embrace our mundane daily routines. This is in fact, a great example that our flame within will keep burning until we decide to blow it out.
Dan Fogelman nailed this over 70’s version of The Hangover. It’s a story about four childhood friends who are desperate to taste that well missed thrill from their youth, and when Billy, played by Michael Douglas, decides to marry Bre Blair in Las Vegas, the reunited pals get the perfect chance. Supported by the Vegas luck, style and charm, this stag weekend away soon becomes another unexpected treasure to add to their list of adventures. Even 50 Cent wanted to join the party! But it’s not all fun and games. Amongst the madness, secrets are revealed, love is lost, and friendships are shaken to the core. But don’t worry, it’s all for the greater good.
The whole cast were fabulous. But I couldn’t complete my review without giving a particular shout out to legends Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas, Kevin Kline and Mary Steenburgen, who were of course… Complete perfection! OK, that sounds slightly cheesy, and yes there are moments of Cheddar in the film. You know… Where you can guess the direction the story is heading. BUT it’s infused with such fantastic comedy you don’t desire it to be any other way. It’s the perfect fun, lighthearted, Hollywood comedy. Another ‘thanks’ to Jon Turteltaub, who just knows how to hit the mark.
This really is a complete joy to watch.
