SHUNT, LONDON BRIDGE STATION
FRIDAY 12TH JUNE

by Joanna Orland

I’m not exactly sure what this night at Shunt had to do with Standon Calling festival, but what a great excuse to put on a fab event that stands well above a typical night out in London. Modern art installations, interactivity, films, live bands of all genres, cavernous labyrinths, and a room full of pinball machines – we were in heaven.

Highlights included the very cute, sexually ambiguous bartender, the hot crowd and the darling boy writing love letters from heaven. We tried to write a love letter in return, citing some classic Britney Spears lyrics. We thought we were so original and clever until Janna threw the love letter behind a wall instead of in the awaiting hands of the love letters from heaven scribe. Then people saw our actions, caught on and there began the trend of returning love letters to heaven.

Anyway, most of our money was spent not on drinks, but on crazed pinball games, which would have given The Who’s Tommy a run for his deaf dumb and blind money.

Bottom line is anything that’s on at Shunt is worth checking out. Because Standon Calling had the common sense to seek out this venue for a few days of fun, they too are worth checking out …in our humble opinions.
