The Big Lebowlski: Together @ Bloomsbury

by Jon Burns & Gillian Wood

What do you get when you combine bowling, the 1950’s, laughing gas, cocktails, party bags, cinema and great music?

The answer is ‘The Big Lebowlski’ (geddit?), Together’s first venture out of Turnmills and into the funky kitsch of Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes.

Having reviewed Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes on these very pages before, we were well excited at the idea of the Together guys taking over the venue for the night, and they didn’t disappoint.

The lanes are beautifully kitted out with original imported 1950’s signage, huge bar, a big American style diner (great menu), and karaoke rooms.
Stick the likes of DJ’s Justin Robertson, Black Grass, the Together All-Stars on the decks, throw on your best fancy dress, suck on some laughing gas and you’re guaranteed a great Thursday night out.

We got there as proceedings were just kicking off, and the atmosphere was top. Party people in their bowling shoes at the bar awaiting their turns on the lanes; Indie boys & girls, cardigan bespectacled geeky-but-cool types mixed with dress-to impress on the dance floor, cutting it up to the likes of old-school Madonna and the Jackson Five. Over in the private karaoke rooms, groups of mates squeezed inside to screech they’re way through their favourite tunes.

The place was busy, but not rammed, and you can even catch a film in the cinema area if you need a break from dancing… ‘The Big Lebowski’ of course!! Check out the fancy cocktails too, very tasty.

We would have liked to stay longer (it finishes at 2am, we missed the goody bags!), and next time we will, but if you fancy a night of good-fun high jinks, ‘Together presents The Big Lebowlski’ is the place to be.

Congratulations to the Together guys for getting it so right, we hope this becomes a regular event!
